About final consonants like "ㄱ", "ㄷ", "ㅂ"

Hi! I have a question about final consonants in Korean, like "ㄱ," "ㄷ," and "ㅂ."
When I say words like "밥" (rice) or "책" (book), I’m not sure how strong the final sound should be.
Sometimes it sounds like the ending is really soft and short, not like a strong "b" or "k" sound.
Should I cut the sound off quickly when I say these words?
I want my pronunciation to sound more natural, but final consonants are tricky for me!

Hi! That’s a really great question.

In Korean, final consonants like "ㄱ," "ㄷ," and "ㅂ" are pronounced softly and very shortly.
You don’t release them strongly like you would in English.
Instead, you stop the sound abruptly at the end, almost like you're holding the sound in your mouth without letting it fully come out.

For example:

  • For "밥" (rice), you lightly close your lips for "ㅂ" but don't make a full 'b' or 'p' sound.
  • For "책" (book), you bring the back of your tongue up as if you're going to say "k", but you stop before releasing the 'k' sound.

Yes, you should cut the sound off quickly and cleanly, without any extra breath or voice after it.
This way, your pronunciation will sound much more natural!

Final consonants are tricky at first, but you’re doing a great job paying attention to these details.
Keep practicing, and it will get easier over time!
