I have a question in Korean

Hi everyone! I have a question about Korean!
I'm a trainee dreaming of becoming a K-pop idol, and I’ve been studying Korean really hard lately.
But I came across something that confused me, so I wanted to ask you all!

I’ve seen both of these sentences:
“이 옷은 너무 작아요” and “이 옷이 너무 작아요”.
They both mean “This clothes is too small,” right? But which one is more correct?

I learned that “은/는” and “이/가” are both subject markers, but I still don’t really understand when to use each one.
Could someone please explain the difference?

If you can share a few similar example sentences too, that would help me so much!
Lately, I’ve been practicing fan meeting interviews, so I want to sound as natural and accurate as possible in Korean.

Thank you so much, and have a great day!

💡 “은/는” vs “이/가”

Both are correct, but they feel a little different:

Marker Use Meaning
은/는 Topic marker “As for...” (general or contrast)
이/가 Subject marker Focus on the subject (specific/emphasis)

Your sentences:

  • 이 옷은 너무 작아요 = “As for this outfit, it’s too small.”
→ You’re just talking about it in general.
  • 이 옷이 너무 작아요 = “THIS outfit is too small.”
→ You’re pointing it out or comparing it to other outfits.

🧸 Simple examples:

  1. 이 노래는 좋아요. → “As for this song, I like it.” (general talk)
  2. 이 노래가 좋아요. → “I like THIS song.” (you’re choosing it)

⭐ Which should you use?

Both are fine.
✅ Use 은/는 when talking about something in general.
✅ Use 이/가 when you want to emphasize it or compare.
