Choreography selection for K-pop auditions

I’ve been practicing a lot for my dance audition, but I’m not sure what choreography to use.
Is it okay to dance to a popular K-pop song, or do companies prefer original freestyle?
I feel more confident with K-pop choreos, but I also want to stand out.
If anyone has tips or experience, I’d love to hear it!

Thank you for your great question—and it’s wonderful to hear that you’ve been practicing hard!

For auditions, many companies accept both K-pop choreography and original freestyle, so you can choose what best showcases your strengths. Dancing to a popular K-pop song is totally fine, especially if it allows you to perform with confidence and precision. Just make sure to add your own style and expression so it doesn’t feel like a simple copy—you want the judges to see you in the performance.

On the other hand, if you’re comfortable with freestyle or creating original moves, that can be a great way to stand out and show your creativity. Some trainees even combine both—starting with a well-known choreo and transitioning into freestyle to leave a unique impression.

In the end, what matters most is how confidently and passionately you perform. Choose the style that makes you feel powerful, and give it your all. You’ve got this—and we’re rooting for you!
